Welcome to Messy Cat – Where Creativity Meets Chaos!

Hello there! I’m Rebecca, a self-employed writer, artist, and illustrator, and the proud creator of Messy Cat. This whimsical journey began when I started sharing little ink drawings on my Instagram page. To my surprise, friends and followers encouraged me to turn these doodles into a captivating story or book. And so, the adventure of Messy Cat unfolded.

In 2023, I dedicated the year to writing and illustrating a book featuring Messy Cat as the lovable protagonist. Inspired by real-life characters on a real-life street, the book is tailored for children aged 8 to 12. Initially conceived as a tale for my son, who was turning 11 at the time, Messy Cat evolved into a cherished project as chapters were met with enthusiasm by the cat owners involved.

As we fast forward to early 2024, I am on the brink of publishing Messy Cat. Beyond the book, Messy Cat is poised to become more than just a literary creation—it’s a space where I’ll document and blog about the genuine challenges of a first-time publisher. Join me on this authentic journey, where I navigate the labyrinth of parenting, health challenges, and the joys of being a lone parent to a wonderfully unique autistic child.

Messy Cat isn’t just about the fictional feline; it’s a glimpse into the messy, beautiful tapestry of my life. I’ll be sharing our experiences, trials, triumphs, and the escapades of my two real-life cats. Expect an intimate chronicle of my attempt to carve out a livelihood through illustrations and writings, sprinkled with occasional affiliate links that align with the spirit of Messy Cat.

Drawing from my artistic background and previous ventures like Podmama and The Pad Lady, I’m ready for a fresh start. While my health journey necessitates a measured pace, Messy Cat provides the perfect canvas for me to express my creativity, document my life, and hopefully, build something wonderful. I plan to also have items on Etsy and also tell the story via a Podcast, but this is a little bit in the future. Slowly, slowly.

In the coming year, I hope to write another book, a sequel, alongside my art and blogging endeavors. For now, let’s embark on the journey of getting Messy Cat published and see where our shared adventure takes us.

I must confess, as a dyslexic individual, writing has always been a challenge. However, as I enter my 50s, I’ve embraced the idea of pursuing my dreams despite the quirks in my storytelling. Neurodivergence, with its unique 3D perspective, is both a strength and a weakness. I’m thrilled that the world now recognizes the richness of neurodivergent minds, like those of us with dyslexia.

So, whether you’re here for the delightful escapades of Messy Cat, the candid documentation of a first-time publisher, or the musings of a dyslexic artist navigating life’s intricacies, welcome to Messy Cat—where imperfections are celebrated, and creativity reigns supreme. Let’s embrace the chaos together!
